Gaylan Media is an independent newsroom reporting in Somali for audiences across the Horn of Africa and the Somali diaspora. We publish original journalism in Somali, English and Arabic: daily reporting, long-form investigations, documentaries, podcasts and live coverage.
What we cover
Our newsroom reports across five countries: Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Readers can follow any of them separately, and every story is filed to the country it belongs to.
Our desks span politics, breaking news, analysis, business, culture, sport and education, alongside opinion essays and documentary series.

Gaylan Media waa warbaahin madax-banaan oo ku warrama afka Soomaaliga. Waxaan ka warramnaa Soomaaliya, Kenya, Jabuuti, Itoobiya iyo Eritrea: warar maalinle ah, baadhitaano dheer, muuqaalo dukumentari ah, podcast iyo baahin toos ah.
Waxaan ku shaqeynaa saddex luqadood: Af-Soomaali, Ingiriisi iyo Carabi.
How we are funded
Gaylan Media is reader-funded. Members pay for the journalism directly, which funds documentaries, live programming and ad-free viewing. Most of what we publish stays free to read and watch; a small number of premium documentaries are reserved for members.
We also carry advertising from sponsors. Sponsored placements are served from our own systems: we run no third-party ad network, we do not use the mobile advertising identifier, and we do not track readers across other companies' apps or websites.
Editorial independence
Our reporting is produced by our own journalists. We own the video, articles, documentaries and live broadcasts we publish, and our editorial decisions are made in the newsroom.
Advertising and membership fund the newsroom; they do not direct it. Sponsors have no say over what we report.
